Today a number of upcoming HTC devices were leaked, both Android and Windows Mobile. These are presumably all the phones that will be released by HTC by the summer of 2010.
I have read several comments where people criticize this new WM lineup, stating that they are too low-end and uninspiring; judging by some of the comments, some seem to have expected the successor to the HD2 already.
I beg to differ.
Follow up:
HTC already have a solid offering of very good WM phones, and the upcoming phones do a good job of plugging the remaining holes.
- The HTC Photon, expected in April of 2010, is the smaller sibling to the HD2, which is a good move as some people find the HD2 a little too large. I think the Photon is a very attractive phone, and personally I would probably buy the Photon instead of the HD2 if it were available today, just because of the more pocketable size.
- The HTC Tera, also expected in April of 2010, is a shrunken Touch Pro 2.
Again, for the fans of slide-out keyboards there will be another option, but smaller and probably less expensive than the Touch Pro 2. How can that be bad? - And finally my absolute favorite: the HTC Trophy, expected in May of 2010.
For some reason HTC has for years completely had its back turned to front-facing QWERTY phones running on Window Mobile Professional, leaving the field wide open to HP and Palm with their QWERTY phones. But that might finally change with the Trophy: with its front-facing QWERTY keyboard and 3" capacitive screen, it promises to be a really interesting device.
I really look forward to this phone. When I compare the HTC Trophy with the HTC Touch and its 2.8" resistive display and 200Mhz processor that I used a few years ago, the Trophy seems like the ultimate device for someone who has a weak spot for front-facing QWERTYs (yes, that includes myself).
In all, I think that HTC will have a solid lineup of WM phones once these devices are out.
My only concern is if these leaked products will really be out by the rumored dates? I certainly hope so, as I am already beginning to wish to replace my not-problem-free E72.
And of course, if an HD2 killer had been leaked instead, then the same people who now criticize these three phones would have instead complained about feeling cheated for having bought the HD2 instead of waiting for any of these phones.
As the saying goes: "you are damned if you do, and damned if you don't".

HTC + Win Mobile = me buying it! I've managed to consolidate most of my mobile surfing emailing messaging and whatevering into my HTC and it means my commute to work saves time once I'm in.
